WorldSkills Finals in Birmingham

In November, Shipley College Health & Social Care students Ashleigh and Fallon showcased their skills at the Birmingham NEC. They joined competitors from a broad variety of sectors ranging from catering to plumbing.

Ashleigh, one of the Shipley College finalists, said, ‘I’m happy that we got as far as we did, and the finals was an amazing experience. We learned and developed our knowledge and confidence for Health & Social Care and it was a high pressure situation, but we pulled through!’

‘I learned aspects I'd never researched before and met so many lovely and interesting people from all over the world and we got on so well. The experience was immense, especially the atmosphere. Nerves and adrenaline filled my body knowing anyone could be watching and looking if I did something wrong. Despite this, Fallon and I, even though we did not win, thoroughly enjoyed the experience with such lovely people.’

‘We would especially like to thank our experienced tutors Jenny, Wendy and Connie.  We would like to congratulate all of the competitors and of course the winners and wish all the best of luck to everyone who has an opportunity to compete in the future!’

Everyone at Shipley College is proud of our students representing our small college at this large international event. We would also like to thank everyone involved in the coordination of WorldSkills and look forward to participating in future competitions.
