Shipley College Great People CJ

We have some amazing staff members at Shipley, CJ started here as a student in 2012 and is now a full time member of staff! We asked CJ about his role at the college and why he thinks it's a great place to work:

'I started as a level 3 Sport student in 2012 and when I finished my course I didn't want to go straight to uni so I took a pathways course in level 2 Personal Training. I was also a class rep and part of the Student Union so I had a really great experience as a student. I progressed to be a football coach for the development team in 2015 and 2016 and then started working here part time. Eventually I was asked to do full days and become a Learning Support Assistant. I’ve done that for the last few years, mainly working with sports students. During COVID I started working more with Foundation Learning students and with the Ability Counts football team. My colleagues encouraged me to apply for the study centre facilitator job and at the same time I started an AET course in Beginner Teaching. I now deliver PSHE sessions alongside my enrichment role and I provide teaching cover for other lessons.

I’ve been here for 10 years, I started as a student at 16 and now I'm 26 and work here full time! I love the working environment at Shipley college, it's a really friendly place and everyone is so supportive. I liked coming here as a student and I still like working here! When I was a student Mike Garrod was a role model to me and since I started working here as staff Nicole Chamberlain has also been a massive support'.
