Industry Skills Week 

Shipley College offers all 16-18 students an industry skills week which is designed to equip students with the necessary technical skills and industry exposure for their chosen career path. The week focuses on a combination of opportunities for students to develop technical skills and knowledge relevant to the associated area, learn from experts in the specific industrial field, gain first hand practical experience and personal development.

 

Skills Development 

  • Career and Employer Events: Students participate in a week-long series of events to gain insights into their industry and potential employers.

  • Technical Skills Development: Students acquire the specific vocational and technical skills required for their chosen career.

  • Industry Collaboration: Students work alongside industry experts through projects, placements, and masterclasses.

  • Holistic Development: The  week emphasises personal growth and reflection, including self-awareness, confidence, and teamwork.

Attendance

Attendance - College Expectations

  • 100% attendance is the goal and expectation for all students.

  • Electronic registers are taken for all sessions.

  • Attendance is monitored closely.

  • Consequences for poor attendance are clearly outlined in the Student Handbook

  • Attendance has a huge impact on your academic success and future opportunities.

  • There are reward systems in place for students with excellent attendance - this is to encourage positive behaviour.

  • We will work closely with parents/guardians to proactively address attendance issues.

 

Lateness

  • Students late to college must register with their teacher as soon as possible on arrival.

  • Late arrivals will be recorded and monitored.

 

Absences

  • Students/Parents/carers must phone or email in absences before 8:30am to the attendance line - 01274 327293 or absence@shipley.ac.uk

  • Extended absences require a completed form and approval.

 

Impact of Poor Attendance

  • There is a direct correlation between attendance and grades.

  • Punctual attendance is vital in the world of work - get into good habits!

  • Universities expect high attendance rates.

 

Monitoring 

  • Daily attendance monitoring.

  • Text or phone calls for unauthorised absences to the student and next of kin.

  • Staff report absences to the Head of Department/Curriculum Manager
