Who is this course for? Individuals with a basic interest in sewing, seeking to re-engage with education or progress to further textile qualifications at college.

Course Aim: This tailored learning course aims to build foundational sewing skills and confidence, enabling participants to successfully transition into further education or enhance their personal and creative lives.

Course Content (Indicative):
Week 1-2: Introduction to Sewing Basics:
- Basic hand-sewing techniques (running stitch, back stitch, hemming stitch).
- Introduction to sewing tools and materials.
- Basic fabric identification and handling.

Week 3-4: Introduction to the Sewing Machine:
- Threading and basic machine operation.
- Straight stitching and simple seam practice.
- Basic machine safety.

Week 5-6: Simple Fabric Projects:
- Creating simple fabric squares and rectangles.
- Practicing seam techniques with simple projects (e.g., fabric coasters, simple pouches).
- Creating simple decorative fabric items.

Week 7-8: Hems and Finishing Techniques (Simple):
- Simple hemming techniques (hand and machine).
- Seam finishing and neatening (basic).
- Introduction to basic applique techniques.

Week 9-10: Personal Projects and Progression:
- Developing individual simple fabric projects based on learned skills.
- Review of learned skills and exploration of personal sewing interests.
- Information on further education and career pathways in textiles.
