Shipley College has been confirmed as one of only 6 schools or colleges in the country to be successful in their application to be involved in the 2024/2025 House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Select Committee Youth Engagement Programme.

Everyone involved is extremely excited that our students can share their views and ideas with this programme and we can’t wait to see the positive impacts their experiences and knowledge will have on the committee’s work.

Skills Coach Esther Moir says:

“We are absolutely thrilled for our students to have this unique opportunity to have the voices of our students heard by policymakers and for them to be able to make a real difference in shaping the future of environmental policy.”

Shipley College was selected to participate in the programme due to our active commitment to sustainability and the environment, as well as our track record of  embedding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across our curriculum.

All students will learn about the committee's work and contribute their ideas during PSHE education sessions. A select group will visit Parliament to see how decisions are made and how their input can shape policy.

The Chair of the Environment and Climate Change Committee, Shaista Ahmad Sheehan, (Baroness Sheehan) will visit Shipley College to allow students to ask questions, and share their perspectives on the issues that matter most to them.

During Parliament Week (November 18-24), the College will be organising activities to further inform students about the workings of government and how they can have an impact on policy-making.
