Travel and Tourism Students' Residential Study Visit

The jet-setting students were there to learn first-hand how the travel industry operates overseas and get involved in the day-to-day tasks of being a holiday rep/Kids rep and holiday entertainer. They were required to be part of proposing itineraries and demonstrate that they were up to the task of delivering arrival transfer speeches and hosting welcome meetings, preparing notice boards and information packs prior to the visit.  The students were also required to research about the destination and the reps roles prior to their week away.

During the trip, the students were involved on a daily basis with work shadowing opportunities with First Choice/Thomson holiday representative responsible for different roles in the hotel, holiday advisors, kids club, entertainment and airport arrival and departure procedures. The students also learnt about the employment opportunities within the Tui organisation and associated companies

Some of the highlights of the trip also included a visit to the beautiful coastal city of Malaga, the popular resort of Fuengirola and to the 18th Fuengirola International Fair, music, dance, food and fun!

The students have now returned to the UK and will need to evaluate the visit against personal, career and subject specialist objectives, one of the ways is a questionnaire which gave them the opportunity to interact with the staff/guests who all remarked how much the students had participated, got involved with their resort teams and gained confidence in their roles.

We have been so proud to see that some of our ex students have gone on to have careers with Thomson/First Choice and other major tour operators as a direct result of participating in previous visits and additionally the confidence and experience gained has been highly valued in preparing students for their future careers or university applications.

The spirit shown by the students and their willingness to learn and pick up new skills was amazing you should be proud of them my team enjoyed having them here and showing them what the job is all about. It was great having them all here and they are more than welcome back.
